Travel planning is about much more than making sure you have a good time. If you are heading overseas for an extended trip you need to take care of quite a few pesky logistical details before you leave. You have to obtain the proper passports , plane tickets, and hotel reservations as learning about foreign customs, etiquette and currency. The idea is to take care of every possible little thing ahead of time so that all you have to do is relax and enjoy the ride.

As part of this process you need to make sure you have purchased a good travel insurance policy before you step on that plane. When you head oversees you aren’t encased in a protective bubble that keeps all dangers and illnesses at bay. You are just as susceptible to illness or injury as you are at home. Make sure you have visitor insurance to help you deal with any problems that arise.

It’s not difficult to buy this type of insurance. There are sites online that offer policy quotes and comparisons and you can talk to actual agents if you have questions about terms. You should be prepared to pay more for insurance to countries that are more dangerous or for global policies that will cover you as you hop around the globe, but you should be able to find an affordable plan.

Think of visitor insurance as just one more item to check off your pre-trip to do list. Once it’s done you’ll be secure in the knowledge that you’re ready for whatever happens, good or bad.

Americans seem to have a love affair with highways and roads. The mystique of Route 66 and the appeal of the scenic drive are undeniable in American culture. For many, there is nothing better than to get behind the wheel of a car and head out to explore the road.

There is a way to combine a love of highways and roads with a trip to Los Angeles. Visitors can incorporate the ideas below in between trips to theme parks and other attractions, creating a unique LA experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Renting a car is necessary for the first two options. Cruising down Mulholland Drive is a must for anyone who loves scenic drives. In fact, this is considered to be one of the most famous scenic drives in the entire world. It encompasses the Hollywood Hills across the Santa Monica Mountains and winds down almost to the Pacific Ocean. Those that want an ocean drive will want to travel the Pacific Coast Highway , or PCH. The road offers stunning views of the ocean and access to beaches and other attractions.

Upon arriving at their hotel on the shuttle from LAX , visitors can take a cab to the Sunset Strip or Rodeo Drive to experience these LA landmarks in person. Walking the two miles of the Strip offers a view of the many faces of LA while window shopping (and people watching) along Rodeo is a one of a kind experience.

The idea of health insurance is somewhat universal, though it may be structured differently in different parts of the world. However, most regular forms of health insurance are limited to the country of origin. If the insured party crosses a national border, they are no longer entitled to medical coverage under their original insurance. This means that overseas travelers need to purchase additional insurance before they leave home, or face the prospect of being without coverage during their trip.

Companies like Reliance travel insurance have developed a range of products to fill this gap. Known alternatively as visitor health insurance, visitor medical insurance, travel insurance, and global health insurance, the various plans work much the same as any other form of insurance. Travelers pay a premium to the insurance company, who pools together premiums from all travelers. That fund is then used to pay for any medical treatment that is required by individual travelers.

It is possible to get a health policy for just about any type of travel. Some policies are based on the length and purpose of travel while others are specific to a given country or continent. Still others, like global health insurance, are valid in almost every country in the world and can last for years for those who are permanent travelers, such as sailors, missionaries, students , and even global citizens who are constantly traveling.

Any trip to the American southwest is going to be filled with images of deserts, cowboys, and ghost towns. No such visit would be complete without a stop at the Grand Canyon — one of the natural wonders of the world and arguably the most stunning sight in North America. It is hard to imagine someone who hasn’t seen a depiction of the Canyon in movies, on television, or in photographs. It is an iconic American symbol along with the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore — with the advantage of not being man-made.

Of course, there is much to recommend a trip to Northern Arizona besides the breath-taking views from the North And South Rims. Grand Canyon hotels are filled every year with people who want to explore the region, not just take snap shots from the top. There is a wealth of geological history offered by the Canyon walls and the wildlife and plants create a unique ecosystem that is worthy of study as well as enjoyment.

Those who spend some time at the Grand Canyon will have to opportunity to visit archaeological digs as well as several tribal sites. Architecture in the area dates back to early settles with houses, lodges, and a train depots still standing. There are also beautiful rock formations that are worth the hike. Adventurous types may want to take a rafting tour of the Colorado to experience the waterlife and different perspective of looking up at the Canyon instead of down.

Singapore may be one of the world’s most expensive cities, with luxurious Singapore hotel , world-class gourmet dining, and some of the greatest shopping in Asia, but it’s also home to the only botanic gardens in the world that is free to the public. The Singapore Botanic Gardens is 157 acres of flowers, plants, rainforest, and associated wildlife. The Garden is open from 5am to midnight every day of the year, providing visitors the chance to explore the environments at dawn, dusk, and after dark.

The National Orchid Garden does have an admission fee, but it’s worth the price, with some 3000 species of orchid and orchid hybrids on display. The rest of the Garden is completely. Plant lovers can stroll through virgin rainforest, explore the ginger Garden, and the Evolution Garden, stop at the Botany Centre, eat at the food court near Tanglin Gate, or take your family through the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden.

Singapore’s Botanic Gardens is only 1/5th the size of New York’s Central Park, but it attracts residents and tourists alike to it’s park areas. Early mornings find joggers, dogs (an their walkers), and tai-chi practitioners taking advantage of the sole remaining greenspace in downtown Singapore. The Gardens also hosts many special events and festivals throughout the year as well as regular tours of the gardens and rainforest.

Many US locations are named for Old World cities, counties, and countries. Hence the prevalence of “New” in American place names. Others get their names from foreign languages of original settlers or local tribes of Native Americans. Some of the more interesting name stories usually involve places named after a specific individual. One of those stories belongs to Orlando Florida.

The city Floridians know as Orlando was originally name Jernigan, after Aaron Jernigan, the area’s first permanent resident who settled there as part of the 1842 Armed Occupation Act. That is a much more straightforward story than the one for the name Orlando. There are actually conflicting stories about the origin of the name Orlando. The first is that it is the name of a soldier, Orlando Reeves, who dies in the Second Seminole War . Another story credits the name to a local plantation and sugar mill owner, also named Orlando Reeves, or sometimes Orlando Rees. Pioneer settlers found the name Orlando Acosta carved in a tree and assumed it was his grave marker. They started referring to the site as Orlando’s grave which later was shortened to Orlando. Still other think that the city was named after the character of Orlando in As You Like It by Shakespeare. Supporters of this legend point to the fact that one of the city’s main streets is named Rosalind, the play’s heroine.

While it’s true that most people staying in business hotels orlando or resorts near Disney have other things on their mind that where the city got its name, the more you know about a city’s history and culture, the deeper your experience of it will be. So next time you go on a vacation or a business trip or even a day trip, take a few minutes to research the place names. You’re sure to learn something interesting.

Almost as famous as the Big Apple itself, Central Park draws visitors from all over the world staying in New York City hotels as well as countless residents of New York. Designed by Frederick Olmsted and Calvert Vaux and completed in 1858, Central Park is the single most visited park in the entire United States, hosting an estimated 25 million park goers annually.

Geographically, Central Park sits on 770 acres and divides the the Upper West Side of Manhattan from the Upper East Side. It includes woods, gardens, a reservoir and numerous lakes and ponds. Visitors can stroll extensive walking tracks or rent a horse to explore the many bridle paths. There is also a running track and two ice rinks, one of which is a swimming pool in the summer, for those seeking more strenuous exercise.

In addition to the natural beauty and restful areas, the park houses a number of attractions, including the Central Park Conservatory Garden, the Central Park Zoo, and Belvedere Castle . Children eagerly line up to ride the Carousel, attend the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, or to avail themselves of the many playgrounds scattered throughout the Park. Adults can enjoy performances at the Delacorte Theater , including the summer Shakespeare in the Park series, or visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Balboa Park is one of the hidden gems of San Diego. Overshadowed by SeaWorld San Diego and even by the San Diego Zoo — which is actually part of Balboa — this is a must-visit place for families and anyone wanting to experience the best the city has to offer.

Most people will start and stop with a visit to the San Diego Zoo. This world famous Zoo is home to thousands of animals and one-of-a-kind exhibits and animal-themed events. It encompasses the Children’s Zoo and guided tour buses as well as the Skyfari Arial Tram which both offer unique viewpoints of the Zoo. Once you’re done with the Zoo, if you just head back to the best San Diego hotels , you’ll miss out on the rest of the Balboa Park experience.

Next on the stop should be the Balboa Park Carousel and Miniature Railroad. Located near the Zoo’s entrance, they are a great diversion for kids and a chance for parents to catch a breather. Then pick one of the many museums in the park to learn more about San Diego culture, and history. Choose from the San Diego Air and Space Museum , the Automotive Museum, or the Natural History Museum. There’s also the Sports Museum , the Model Railroad Museum, the Museum of Man, and the Fleet Science Center. Of head to the Mingei International Museum which features folk art that is bright and dynamic enough to keep the attention of most children.

Located in Hong Kong’s New Territories, the Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas is a 20th century monastery that draws many visitors out of their Hong Kong Hotel s in the city and out to the small town of Sha Tin to tour the site. Several of the buildings there are already designated Historic Buildings and destined to become historic monuments.

The Temple was built in the 1950s by Yuet Kai , a monk who came to Hong Kong after WWII. He instructed his followers to bury him in the posture of meditation and exhume him after eight months. After his death in 1965, his instructions were carried out and his body was found in good condition which was believed to be proof of the victory of the soul over the flesh body. The body was then lacquered and gilded in a Buddha posture on Buddha’s birthday. It can be viewed in one of the temple buildings.

Visitors climb over four hundred steps to reach the monastery. They can then view over 12,000 individual buddhas, in different posses, which line the walls of the main Temple. Made by craftsmen in Shanghai, the buddhas have been donated by worshippers over the 60 years since the Temple was constructed. There are four other temples on the grounds as well as four pavillions and the nine-story iconic Pagoda.

The four additional temples each contain a large statue of Buddha. There are also statues of gods and goddesses, such as Kwum Yum. The stunning views from the Temple grounds include Amah Rock. The temple is free, although donations are welcome.

It is really interesting to see how three dominate religions make their claims to religious sites in Jerusalem. Christians, Jews and Muslims all stake their claim to what is sacred for them. For the Muslims, one of the big stops is the Dome of the Rock . It is not a mosque it is actually a shrine that is built over a sacred stone. This stone is believed to be the place where Prophet Muhammad ascended into heaven during his Night Journey to heaven.

It is the oldest Islamic Monument standing today. It can be seen from almost everywhere in Jerusalem and it is really beautiful.

The Jewish people also have their belief of this sacred spot. They believe that this is the spot where Abraham had prepared to sacrifice Isaac. They also believe that this monument is right on top of the site of Solomons Temple and Herod’s Temple. So the debate continues.

People flock to the Jerusalem hotels in search of what ever truth they can find about the city. It is hard for any of these religions to prove their claims and it is really interesting to learn how each of them state their case. The Dome is a beautiful place to visit no matter what you believe.
