Portugal’s conservative President Anibal Cavaco Silva has decided that he will ratify a law that will allow gays to wed in his country. This is the sixth country in Europe to pass such a law. The decision to do this was based on the idea that they country just needs to get back to fixing their economical disaster and he didn’t want to waste anymore time arguing about the benefits verses the negatives of gay marriage, acknowledging that the liberal lawmakers would only overturn his decision if he had tried to prevent gays from marrying any longer. While an overwhelming majority of people in Portugal are Catholic, the majority of those would not consider themselves practicing Catholics.
